Eswatini Produces High Quality Sugar

  • Eswatini is the fourth largest sugar producer in Africa and amongst the top 10 net-exporters of sugar in the world.
  • Through the Eswatini Sugar Association (ESA), Eswatini is committed to supplying sugar products that meet and exceed quality expectations of its global customers.
  • ESA has put in place a robust customer engagement program aimed at ensuring that Eswatini sugar is food-safety compliant and meets required specifications.
  • The industry currently produces three types of sugar:
    • Raw sugar: This is sugar that is produced in bulk form (not bagged) for further processing in foreign markets to produce refined sugar, mainly Europe and the United States.
    • VHP brown sugar: This is very high polarization (VHP) brown sugar that is produced for direct consumption. This is sold mainly to the SACU and regional markets.
    • Refined sugar: This is white sugar produced by the two refineries (Mhlume and Ubombo) and mainly available for sale to the SACU market.
